My job is to touch people. I love my job. Do I love touching? Yes. Although it is not always easy, on the contrary. Information, that can be gathered through touching is enormous. Last couple of days I have been thinking touching a lot. At the same time when I'm learning more about myself I'm educating my sense to touch to be as diverse as possible. It feels that this sense can be evolved to eternity. In Gil Hedley's dissection course I saw and experienced what can be physically touched. After this very concrete experience I feel expanding variation of my touch and the mental growing with it. You can see a lot of things in the dead body and much more in the living body. When I'm treating a horse its body tells which way to go, humans can tell their story more precisely with words. Connection between the past and present is intriguing. What is your body telling about you?
People are coming to see me and they want me to touch, heal, fix, make them better, do something. Expectations are quite often high. In a way because of my occupation I have a permission to touch people before I really know them. How does it feels to let someone you don't know to touch you? How much you can help with your touch and hands? What are people ready to do by themselves? If somebody wants to get better there should be willingness to change something, develop and think. Why I am in the point that I really need help now? With children and animals it is natural to touch with your hands, they are open and guiding my hands in the right direction. Adults can say that I don't want you to touch my calves, thigh area, pectoral muscles etc. Why, what is the reason? On the contrary some people are saying that I'm always wanted to someone touch my upperneck, head, gluteals and so on. There seems to be so much inner wisdom in us, if you stop and listen for a while.
Under my hand I can feel the skin, my touch is deepening, widening and following the tensional points of the body. I feel that touching is the dialogue, how deep I can go and what are the areas that need to be touched. Learning is part of life and the progress in your occupation is premise for you to success and keep on working. Your hands are becoming stronger with knowledge. Luigi Stecco is saying that Manus Sapiens potens est, knowledgeable hand is potent. When he is speaking you can see the inspiration in his eyes, the desire to help and joy of teaching. When I'm looking this gentleman I understand people who love their job. It is not just a job, it is life.
Why I'm thinking touching more now than before. It has been my job 13 years already. I was sitting and watching my students when they were learning how to touch. The moment when somebody understands that you can chance something with your touch is magical. In that moment there is same time fear, joy and relaxation. It is a priviledge to be a part of this kind of journey in someone's life. When I'm seeing it I really want to touch and to be touched. It feels good and it confirms that the journey continues.
